Choosing a new instrument is about much more than finding one that looks beautiful. The sound, response and feel of an instrument need to work with the individual player, and what suits one musician may not suit another.
I make each violin, viola and cello individually, and I usually have a selection of instruments available to try at the workshop. Take your time, play them in different ways and listen to how they respond. I’m always happy to discuss the differences between instruments and help you find one that feels right for you.
Choosing the right instrument
I work with players of all levels, from students looking for an instrument to help them progress through to professional musicians looking for particular qualities of sound and response.
If I don’t currently have an instrument that suits you, I’m also happy to discuss a commission. We can talk about the type of sound you’re looking for, the model and size of instrument, and any other requirements you may have.
Visits to the workshop are by appointment, allowing plenty of time to try instruments without feeling rushed.
